Trim Levels

The new Leaf boasts a few exterior styling upgrades, which include a revised grille, front bumper, and headlights. You can choose from attractive exterior color options such as Scarlet Amber, Deep Blue Pearl, and Gun Metallic. For the 2023 model year, the trim lineup has been scaled down to two trims: the base trim and the SV Plus. The base trim is equipped with 16-inch steel wheels, halogen headlights, an aerodynamic rear spoiler, and power-adjustable side mirrors. Apart from 17-alloy wheels and LED headlights, the SV Plus trim features LED daytime running lights, fog lights, and heated side mirrors.

Engine

Each trim is equipped with a different powertrain. The base trim's powertrain consists of a 147-horsepower electric motor and a 40-kWh battery pack. The estimated driving range of this powertrain is around 149 miles. On the SV Plus, the powertrain features a larger 60-kWh battery pack and an electric motor that generates an output of 214 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. With this powertrain, you can expect an estimated range of 212 miles.

Performance

The floor-mounted battery pack of the Leaf makes for smooth handling and reduced body roll around corners. You can charge the battery using a regular 120-volt or 240-volt outlet. With a 240-volt connection, Nissan states that you can recharge both the regular and larger battery packs within seven hours. A third charging option, namely through a DC fast charger, is also offered. With a fast charger, you can recharge your Leaf within 30 minutes. Both the base and SV Plus trims come standard with a DC-fast charging connection.

Interior

The cabin of the Leaf is relatively spacious and fitted with supportive seats for up to five passengers. You also receive a spacious rear cargo area of 23.7 cubic feet, which you can extend to 30 cubic feet when folding the rear seats down. The standard 8-inch infotainment system is well-equipped and easy to use. Apart from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, standard features include four speakers, SiriusXM, and Bluetooth. The base trim also comes with automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, and a cloth seat trim. With the more upscale SV Plus trim, you can expect heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver seat, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The trim also features a leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, an electronic parking brake, and a hybrid heater system.

Safety Features

The Leaf's extensive range of advanced standard driver-assist systems will help to keep you and your family safe on the road. Standard features include automatic emergency braking, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, and a rear-view monitor are also offered as standard gear. For an even safer ride, opt for available systems such as a surround-view camera, driver attention warning, adaptive cruise control, and ProPilot Assist.
