Indianapolis, IN is known for the Indy 500 race. If you’re looking for a fun and exciting activity for you and your kids, you’ll definitely want to check out the race. Unfortunately, it only comes around once a year. There are, however, plenty of other fun and family-friendly activities to enjoy year-round in the city.

6 Great Kid-Friendly Activities in and Around Indianapolis, IN

1. Rhythm Discovery Center

Usually, children are discouraged from banging on things. That isn’t the case at the Rhythm Discovery Center, however. Here, children are encouraged to bang on instruments and make as much noise as possible. There are many instruments from around the world here, giving children an opportunity to use instruments that might not normally get to see. It’s not just about making noise, though. It’s about learning.

2. Indy Zoo

Not all zoos are created equal. The zoo in Indy is definitely top tier when it comes to zoos. In addition to all of the beautiful animals, there is a dolphin show that you don’t want to miss. If you want to get close to the action, and don’t mind getting wet, there is a splash zone. The show has open seating, so get in line early if you want a good seat.

3. Conner Prairie

We live in a technology-driven world. But when you take your kids to Conner Prairie, they’ll get a chance to see what life was like in 1836. This is a really cool place that goes way beyond the museum experience. In Conner Prairie, you’ll find real people portraying history, complete in period garb. There are also lots of hands-on activities for children as well.

4. Glow Golf

You’ve probably played miniature golf but not like this. Glow Golf is a miniature, indoor golf course that glows in the dark. The rules and the play are the same as a traditional game of putt-putt golf, but the glowing atmosphere takes things to the next level. If you’re still in the mood for more fun after you finish your game, check out the other attraction at Glow Golf, the laser tag maze.

5. Children’s Museum

This children’s museum is huge, with five whole floors to explore. One floor, Playscape is devoted to babies and toddlers. Things can get messy on this level but that’s all a part of the fun, right? Older kids will enjoy the ‘Treasures of the Earth’ where they get to be Indiana Jones, solve mysteries and dig for treasure. Plan to spend your entire day here because there is so much to see and do.

6. Hunt for Indy Signs

You’ll find signs that read ‘ndy’ at different locations around the city. The ‘I’ in Indy is purposefully left out. You’re encouraged to stand next to the huge signs and become the “I” that is missing. Searching for the signs has all the energy of a scavenger hunt but is easy enough for even small children to have fun with. You will definitely have a good time in Indianapolis, but thing that would make it better is driving home in a new car. Check out Ed Martin Nissan if you’re looking for a new vehicle.
