Discover the Indianapolis Zoo: 4 Tips for Visitors

The Indianapolis Zoo is one of the best zoos in the United States, with over 3,800 animals of more than 300 species. It is located in White River State Park in Indianapolis, Indiana and is visited by approximately a million people every year. The zoo also has rides, attractions, and animal feeding programs. Make Time for All Five Biomes

Biomes are the geographical areas of our planet with similar plants and animals that share a climate.
 

Plains 

This area includes animals such as cheetah, African lion, rhino, impala, ostrich, African elephant, wildebeest, zebra, etc. that are native to the African savannah and grasslands.

Deserts 

The desert biome area of the zoo is famous for animals such as the desert tortoise, meerkat, roadrunner, Gila monster, iguana, etc. It also includes animals native to the Australian outback region like the red kangaroo, Emu, saltwater crocodile, etc.

Oceans 

This area includes different aquatic animals, such as sea lions, seals, sharks, penguins, walrus, and dolphins, to name a few. Some of the fish species include lionfish, clownfish, tang, buttery fish, eel, and seahorse.

Forests 

Some animals in the forest biome are red panda, Amur tiger, lemur, gibbons, brown bears, bald eagles, and turkey vultures.

Flights of Fancy 

This section of the zoo is dedicated to different species of birds like flamingos, owls, eagles, parrots, macaws, pheasants, and hornbills.

The Zoo Is Closed on Only Some Holidays

The zoo is open to the public daily, including on Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. However, it is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. In addition to that, it remains shut on Monday and Tuesday in January and February.

Keep Zoo Safety Guidelines in Mind

Smoking, outside food, and beverages are not permitted inside the premise. No face paints and masks on anyone over the age of 12 are allowed. Apart from that, guests should dress modestly without any vulgar or offensive language or graphics on their clothes.
