A Look at the Altima’s Mechanics 

You can’t go wrong with any trim in the lineup this year, as each one is powered by a 2.5-liter 16-valve DOHC four-cylinder engine. Front-wheel-drive models get 180 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 RPM and 188 horsepower at 6,000 RPM, while all-wheel-drive Altimas receive 178 lb-ft and 182 horsepower. The S trim comes with front-wheel drive, while the other four trims offer a choice of front- or all-wheel drive.

All models are equipped with an Xtronic continuously variable transmission for incredibly smooth and responsive acceleration, along with independent front and rear suspensions featuring coils over the shocks and stabilizer bars. Both the front-wheel and all-wheel-drive SR models come with sequential shift control with steering-mounted controls, as well as brake-actuated Intelligent Trace Control. Four-wheel disc brakes and speed-sensitive steering come standard across the lineup, enhancing the Altima’s revered handling.
