A close up photo of the back of a gray 2023 Nissan Frontier taken near Indianapolis, IndianaNissan’s formidable mid-size pickup, the Frontier, returns for the 2023 model year with a plethora of powerful and capable features. These features, as with all vehicles, are available to a varying extent depending on which trim level you choose. If you are thinking about getting a Nissan Frontier, you need to know all about the differences between these trims.

While each trim level is unique, every 2023 Frontier is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 motor paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission that makes 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Another thing uniting all Frontiers is Nissan’s suite of safety features, which come standard on all trim levels. These include an advanced airbag system, tire monitoring system, and crumple-zone construction.

S

Even though it is the base trim level, the Frontier S is available in several configurations. For drivetrain options, you can choose either 4×2 or 4×4, and for cab size, you can choose king cab or crew cab. The crew cab is the larger, full four-door configuration, while the king cab has half doors for the smaller rear seats. The S trim comes with the basic driver assistance package, keyless entry, and an 8-inch infotainment screen.

SV

Building on the S trim, the Frontier SV is also available with 4×2 or 4×4 and as a king cab or crew cab, but crew cab SVs are also available with a longer pickup bed. Upgrades over the S include larger 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a six-speaker sound system, color-matched exterior details, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat as standard features.

PRO-X

The PRO-X trim is only available as a crew cab 4×2 with a short bed. The Frontier PRO-X is upgraded with the following standard features: a tow-haul switch, off-road shocks, LED lights all around, leather interior accents, a larger infotainment screen, and more access to integrated technology services, like NissanConnect and Premium Traffic.

PRO-4X

The Frontier PRO-4X is essentially the 4×4 version of the PRO-X trim. It includes all the standard PRO-X features as well as an electronic locking rear differential, a switch-operated two-speed transfer case, and special PRO-4X interior accents. This is the Frontier trim level that is the most capable off-road, with the combination of a locking differential, 4×4 drivetrain, and Bilstein off-road shocks.

The Frontier is Nissan’s answer to the mid-size pickups offered by Ford, Toyota, and GM, but these trim levels prove that the Frontier will be hard to beat. Modern technological features like driver assistance and connect services show that you don’t have to compromise on convenience and comfort to have a capable pickup. Come see us today at Ed Martin Nissan to test drive a 2023 Frontier for yourself. In this case, seeing is believing.
